with first degree murder. funeral services meantime for pratt are scheduled for tomorrow. >>> another big story we are following on the news edge at 11:00, a prince george's county mother charged with felony murder after leaving her child alone in a hot car for seven hours. the 2-year-old was found dead strapped in his car seat. fox 5's stacey cohan has the latest on the story. >> neighbors say that 40-year- old karen murphy, they strongly defended her. she's a married mother of three and the commonwealth attorney claims, though, this is not the first time she forgot her child in a car. murphy left her home june 17th to head to work but allegedly forgot her son was strapped in the back seat. she left work around 4 p.m. and drove home never noticing her son ryan was in the back seat. she realized her mistake when her husband called wondering why the boy was not in daycare. meantime the commonwealth attorney says murphy left the boy strapped in the family van back in january but retrieved him quickly when the daycare called her office wondering if ryan was coming in that day. >> the law pro

news. >>> and back to our other big story tonight, the punishing heat that continues to grip our region. here we are after 10:00 tonight live in d.c. and it's 90 degrees outside, feels like 99 degrees, but it's a bit cooler than it was this afternoon. get this. dulles registered the hottest temperature ever on record today, 105 degrees and in the district at times it felt like 120 degrees. sue palka with us now. is it ever going to stop? >> it's hard to almost put into words what we've been through and what i'm noticing is people that have lived in d.c. all their lives, we don't remember anything like this, widespread heat indexes of 115 to 120. the 120 we hit in d.c. which is what it feels like, that combination of heat and humidity, we don't it really keep records on that, but one of the guys at the weather service did a calculation and says you have to go back to july 16th, 1980, to find a day more humid than today. so if it feels like it's been decades, folks, it has. we hope it will be decades before we do it again, shawn. we had a few cooling thunderstorm earlier today and that he

and tony. the weather is the big question. thunderstorms are in the forecast for the space shuttle's launch. here at nasa godard, everyone is watching and waiting keeping their fingers crossed that the skies will clear and all system go. the space shuttle atlantis is fueled and ready to go on the launch pad at the kennedy space center. it is the last shuttle flight for the 30-year-old program which began with columbia, 1981. it's estimated that about a million people are gathering along the west coast of florida to watch the final shuttle mission. weather remains a concern with a 70% chance of thunderstorms or rain threatening to delay. atlantis must take off by sunday or monday or it will have to wait until july 16th before it launches again. when the mess is over, atlantis will join discovery and endeavour. next, sending astronauts to asteroids or to mars. future missions to the international space station will be handled by private space vehicles. they are in development right now and it's not expected to be another three fire years before they are ready to launch. so, keep your eyes out
